i'm sorry in advance

◈ art

the great gatsby was so fucking good oh my god
CAN WE TALK ABOUT CINEMATOGRAPHY FOR A SECOND BECAUSE HOLY JESUS EVERY SINGLE SHOT WAS JUST AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE TO MY EYEBALLS
and god everything was so vivid and borderline outrageous?? but it absolutely suited the book and i wasn’t sure how well the music would work but WOW it was just really really great
GAH EVERYTHING WAS SO PRETTY and all of the places looked exactly as i had pictured them!! how did they do that!!
and leo was perfect and vulnerable and tragic and i literally came out of the theatre not knowing to do with myself bye
seriously if you liked the book you are really going to enjoy the movie i feel like it’s a masterpiece

wow

when people think that a good way to start a conversation is by saying something like “you look really tired”

Hi:) I just wanted to tell you that I've just now discovered this blog, and I have to say that I simply ADORE your art. Your lineart and your use of coloring and everything is just, GAH, it's perfect. I'm actually looking to start drawing fanart and just regular art and things of that nature, but I kind of have absolutely no idea where to start. :p I'm pretty good at drawing realistically, but when it comes to creating my own cartoon-y style, I'm totally lost. Any advice on how to start? Thanks!

aaaahhh thank you so much!! goodness gracious that’s very kind of you :’)
i think the best advice i could give you is NOT to try to imitate a specific style - like, don’t look at your favourite artists’ stuff and think “oh, that’s the only right way to do it” because then your art will start looking like carbon copies of someone else’s work!! (i speak from experience it took me a really long time get away from forcing my art into a specific style)
i dunno - if you do a lot of realism, i suggest just trying to draw things more simply? use more gestures, don’t fine tune every detail - focus more on expression through your art than rendering exactly what’s in front of you. once you start breaking your subject matter down into simpler, more workable blocks, there’s more room for you to add your own flair and tweak what you wish!
it’s good that you started out with realism because it gives you a better understanding of the “rules” - now you just get to bend them into whatever you want :’) it takes time to develop a style you’re really comfortable with!! just keep practicing!

gosh sorry for this block of text, i hope this was helpful to you in some way!! this is basically how i started out but idk there’s not really a “how-to” on developing your own style (i’m still fumbling with mine) but it all comes through time and practice!

have a lovely day! :)
